Nasty Respiratory Virus

(Week of March 7st, 2010)

If you're laid low with a nasty bug that acts like a cold but takes weeks shake, you probably have the respiratory virus that has been bringing patients ~ young and old ~ into our offices.

Typically, it starts with a sore throat, and some patients lose their voices (It shows up as croup in kids). It then moves down into the bronchial tubes and resides for what can seem a very long time as an annoying cough.

For viruses, we recommend rest and plenty of fluids.

Young children (usually infants and toddlers) can experience wheezing that makes breathing difficult. If your child develops a rapid, wheezing breathing pattern, call your physician right away as this can develop into an emergency situation.
